Got A Big Ego?– Then Be Prepared To Ask It To Help You……

Friends, before we begin this discussion, I would like to add a disclaimer. Please put your toes nicely tucked away as I don’t want anyone to say that Sharon D. Meadows intentionally stepped on them. Now that we have that out of the way, shall we begin?

The EGO, what is it and where did it come from? I’m no bible scholar but I read my bible. My thought is the “ego” has been around since the beginning of time. Ego was the cause of the sin committed by Adam and Eve in the garden. You don’t believe me? Think about it. Why did Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit even after God forbid them to do so? They did so because the serpent convinced Eve the fruit would open their eyes and give them wisdom and they would be like God, knowing good and evil. I would imagine in Eve’s mind she was thinking never mind what God said, “I” want to be wise and “I” want to be like God and “I” am eating this fruit, and so she did.

When “self” becomes the center of your world, the Ego is being fed and it begins to grow. The more you love “self”, the result is a big, big, EGO! The bible teaches us to actually kill the ego by loving others and not putting our-self first. But how many of us actually do this?

May I share a personal experience with you? In the past few years, I have seen how ego can hinder the growth, development and prosperity of many goals and dreams. I have seen the impact of ego in Corporate America, outside of Corporate America, in relationships, in friendships, in business partnerships, etc, etc, etc.

Some of you still may not have a clear picture of how damaging ego is when it’s present so let me paint a picture for you. Imagine you are at a party and you are having a good time mingling with other folks. You are engaging others, eating, laughing, dancing, and it’s a good time! Then you hear a knock on the door, someone new just arrived and they are invited in. It’s ego. EGO is loud because it wants to be the center of attention and people are annoyed by the presence of ego. Ego comes in to steal the show. When ego arrives, the good time and the party are over and people eventually leave!

When the focus is placed on “self” it’s hard to keep one’s ego in check. Often times when ego gets out of control we refer to this as “ego tripping”. Know any folks like this? Let’s see, the person that just got promoted and now they think they are the BOSS and instead of leading others they are “bossing” others…ego tripping. The star player on the team that doesn’t want to pass the ball…ego tripping. You get the picture.

A big inflated ego takes up a lot of room so generally, people tend to leave to make room for it. The problem is when others leave to make room for a big inflated ego, their gifts and talents go with them. It’s a sad tragedy friends, but I see it happen often, hence why the presence of ego is so damaging to the success of fulfilling goals and dreams.

If you focus your energy and attention on yourself, and you believe that it’s all about YOU before long others will depart and it will be all about you because no one else will stick around. Moral of the story, if you are in love with “self”, then be prepared to ask your big ego to chip in to help you get things done.

Ask yourself is it all about you or do you make others important too? #OneManShow #BigEgo
